Altering my social media usage
Feb. 17th, 2025 04:25 pmWow, I have not posted to Dreamwidth in eons. Definitely years. I wanted to come on here after the encouragement of
florianschild and actually try my hand at longform blogging again.
I am in the process of really revamping my social media usage. Over the years, after having worked in social media for a really long time, I have come to appreciate platforms that others might not use much. I am much more of a Bluesky and Tumblr user than say, Facebook and Twitter. This week, I deleted my Instagram account and the week prior to that, my Facebook account.
I have found a good community over at Bluesky that has been encouraging and fun to engage with. Tumblr is awesome for fandom fun and I still have a good time there.
But believe me when I say, quitting Instagram has been one of the hardest things I've done in a LONG time. I feel borderline addicted to it and when I'm not on it, I have wicked fomo. Like, it's bad. I love the reels. I love the stories. I love seeing people being successful in their goals. However, Meta has fired their fact checkers and on top of that, Meta has contributed money to the awfulness that is Trump. I just can't, in good conscience, use it anymore. So I deleted my Meta accounts. And I'm glad I did.
I want to keep my social media use minimal. Doing that via Bluesky and Tumblr is working for me. But I also really like the idea of Dreamwidth for longer content. I am a HUGE reader and I love seeing Florian share her meta commentary on the books she's reading. I want to participate. I want to get to know you all!
SO here I am, a fledgling Dreamwidth user. Happy to be here. ;)
